February 14 - Creative Zen (Shaun Williams)
The Artistic Director, Head Blacksmith and Founder of The Guild, Urban Craft & Folk Art School and Dark Angel Armory and Forge.
His passion for metalworking started at an early age when he became involved in medieval reenactment and stage combat choreography; making his own period authentic armor and weapons. Following the natural progression of metalworking and his search for a more efficient and effective way of moving steel he segued into the art of blacksmithing. Dark Angel Armory & Forge was officially born.
Shaun has traveled extensively to broaden his metalworking talents, studying with Hungarian, Italian and Czech masters of his trade.
Shaun led the annual metalworking merit badge program for the past decade during Scout Advancement Weekend (SAW) at the Tanah Keeta Boy Scout Reservation for Boy Scouts of America.
Between 2012-2019 he served as Regional Coordinator for the Florida Artist Blacksmith Association a 501c3 Non-profit organization, hosting monthly, free to the public educational meetings at his art studio.
He started teaching adult blacksmithing classes in 2013 at Makers Square in Fort Lauderdale, then he became an Adjunct Faculty Member at The Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach. Simultaneously teaching in his own small 600sqft art studio, which he quickly outgrew. A year later together with his Guild Co-founder and now wife they moved to their current location and started offering workshops and courses in many different art forms under the new name: The Guild, Urban Craft and Folk Art School.
Dark Angel Armory and Forge remained Shaun’s Custom Ironwork business where he focuses on creating public art, custom gates, railings, sculptures, and museum quality restorations.
